Here is what I put in my kitchen, which I will share with the caveat that while we really enjoy a good meal, I don’t enjoy cooking so much that I want to be doing a lot of complicated preparation while I camp. I prefer to prep some meals before we leave and keep meals simple whenever possible so we can enjoy the great outdoors (this also involves planning as many meals as I can for the grill or campfire). I also wanted to keep the load light and find dual-purpose items whenever possible.
• CAMCO Silent Top Stovetop Cover
Perfect for adding more “counter” space if you have a small kitchen. This product is designed to work with the Wedgewood Vision, Wedgewood 3- or 4- burner, Magic Chef 3 and 4 burner and the Suburban 3 burner range tops. It comes with 4 rubber feet you will need to screw on yourself to fit your particular stove. CAMCO includes all the necessary hardware and a template. (WARNING: the template lines were off for our Wedgewood 3-burner stove top, so make sure you place the template over your stovetop grill and mark the locations before you attach the feet. Patrick had to drill new holes for the second two feet to make it work for our stove.) That said, with those small adjustments, it now fits our stove and gives us much-needed extra workspace. This product, along with the matching CAMCO sink cover, makes our small cooking area efficient! The cover also comes with a flexible cutting mat (you won’t want to use the stove cover as a cutting board itself). This product comes in 3 finishes: Oak, Bordeaux (dark wood stain) and Bamboo. I chose the bamboo stove and sink covers and couldn’t be happier. The board is 19.5 x 17 inches and will cover the burner area.
• CAMCO 13 x 15 inch Bamboo Sink Cover
This sink cover’s non-slip feet adjust to keep it in place while traveling. In my tiny kitchen, it creates much-needed additional workspace. It fits the large size of my sink perfectly. While not meant to be used as a cutting board, I just use the thin cutting mat that came with the stove cover on it. I also use the cutting board listed below, which fits into the small side of my sink.
• OXO Good Grips Utility Cutting Board With non-slip grippy edges, it fits perfectly into the small side of my sink (10.5 x 14.5 inch), even during travel.
• Corelle Dinnerware Set (20-piece service for 4)
I love the versatility of the Winter Frost White set! They’re safe for refrigerator, microwave, and oven use. They are so lightweight, stackable, and break resistant that I can throw the whole low-profile stack into one bin and shove it in an over-table cupboard. This set even includes storage covers for the bowls. Cook, serve and store leftovers, then reheat all in one practical dish! My mother has used these dishes for decades, so I knew how durable they were. Now I understand why they are an RV staple. With this simple white set, I can change the look with table accessories (something I
• Vivocci Unbreakable Elegant Plastic Stemless Wine Glasses
These lovely glasses are an attractive alternative to the real thing (and BPA/toxin free). Just look at these functional beauties. You’d never know they weren’t the real thing. I occasionally find myself tapping them in amazement. I am a person who has never liked drinking out of plastic, but I don’t mind with these glasses. They don’t have that
• Vinyl Place Mats
Nicer looking than you’d expect (see the photo with place settings above – they actually have a cloth weave look) and you can wipe them clean. Something about them just says “I’m glamping.” I picked the lovely chocolate brown, but they come in a variety of colors.
• Stainless Steel Coffee Mugs with Lid
Great camping mugs. Drag them out to the campfire, take them with you on your morning walk. Double-walled to keep drinks hot, unbreakable, with spill-resistant lids.
• FineDine Premium Grade Stainless Steel Pint Cups
Yes, I really do have an issue with plastic. So I also bought these 16-ounce stainless steel cups. They come in a pack of five. Why five? I don’t know. It is “odd.” If an extra fun visitor stops by your campsite at dinnertime, offer them a drink. I bought them because they’re unbreakable and nest into a tidy little stack. Keep them in the fridge and you won’t need ice.
• OGGI 3-Piece Oval Mixing Bowl Set with Non-skid Bases
Easy grip handles and non-drip pouring spouts, nesting bowls. (34, 84, and 169 ounces) Use for mixing and serving. Fits into narrow RV cupboards perfectly and non-skid base keeps them from sliding around. (BPA free)
• NORPRO Silicone Roast Rack / Trivet
Elevates meat and vegetables for faster/even heating. It also keeps meats from burning and sticking in the oven. When it’s clean and you’re not using it as a roasting rack, it doubles as a trivet. I’m a sucker for dual-purpose items. (At
• Shappy Cupboard Tension Bars
There are SO many uses: curtain rods, closet hanging rod or shoe rack, inside cupboards and the refridgerator to keep things from falling out when opened. I also use it to keep spice bottles in our built-in rack during travel. The wood-tone rods match my cupboards. No tools needed, just unscrew to fit and rubber end caps hold them in place. (Adjust in length from 11.8-20 inches.)
• Command™ Hooks and Adhesive Strips
This is one case where the brand seems to make a difference. I’ve tried cheaper versions and wasted time
