RV GPS

Rand McNally RVND 7″ GPS
Although the reviews weren’t quite as high on this one, the positives seemed more realistic and relevant (and any negative reviews seemed either petty or due to user error so we decided to risk it). At first glance, the menu system did not seem quite as intuitive as a Garmin, but that may be chalked up to a change from a brand we’d used for years to something entirely new. So far, this unit has given us reliable directions. It offers viable alternative routes. The larger screen is nice. While it does seem to start up and calculate the route more slowly, perhaps that’s because it’s making accurate calculations up front. It determines the best route based on our unique RV specifications (length, weight, height). We can also select points of interest, rest areas, and campgrounds along our route.

MATTRESS

10-inch Short Queen-size Ultima Comfort RV Memory Foam Mattress
Five inches of high-density foam as a support base, with two inches of “Comfort Foam,” topped with three inches of memory foam all sized to fit a queen RV bed. It arrived folded in half, flattened and rolled. As I cut the plastic, it was already fluffing up. It expanded fully within a couple of hours and we noticed no discernible manufacturing odors. I was afraid that it would make lifting the lid for below-bed storage impossible, but it actually flexes more than the board-stiff mattress that came with the trailer. This mattress is thick and soft with layers beneath that support. Allows you to take all the comforts of home camping! Now we have an amazing night’s sleep wherever we go. We found this mattress to be as comfortable as our Tempurpedic (for a tiny fraction of the price)!

BEDDING

Beckham Luxury Goose Down Alternative Comforter
The lovely chocolate brown matches our trailer décor. We bought the king size for our RV short queen so we’re not fighting over covers. It’s machine washable and lightweight enough that it doesn’t take forever to dry … also soft and comfy enough that you might forget you’re camping. (Hypoallergenic for those of us with allergies.)

RV Short Queen Bed Sheets
Deep pocket stays put, soft and hypoallergenic. (We got them in a lovely mocha shade, but there are dozens of fun colors to choose from.) Plenty left to tuck well around our 10-inch mattress and mattress pad. These sheets are buttery soft and will make you feel like you’re “glamping.”

BATH TOWELS

Venture 4th Microfiber Towels
Super soft, dries quickly and they come with hanging loops on both the convenient rip-stop zippered storage bag and on the towel itself. Microfiber cloth usually irritates my dry sensitive skin, but these towels are much softer than others I’ve tried. Wash before you use it and it will also be super absorbent. Note when selecting colors: the blue color bled a lot the first time I washed it, the gray did not. If you select a bright color, give it a good soaking in cool water separately first. I hand-washed these towels separately, then ran them through the dryer together before we used them. We are VERY impressed with these very soft and absorbent towels!

RV Dehumidifier

DEHUMIDIFIER

Ivation 13-Pint Dehumidifier
For less than $200, this dehumidifier prevents moisture damage, mold, and mildew … a minor investment to protect any recreational vehicle and as an added bonus, it will keep the RV interior smelling fresh. It’s good for up to 270 square feet and can pull out a half gallon of moisture on wet days during our North Carolina winters. The Ivation Dehumidifier includes a connection hose for continuous drainage or a pull-out water container (with automatic shut-off) for those who prefer that option. In warmer seasons, we just have the tube drain into the sink. This one works even in cold temperatures, so it’s practical for our needs. It’s a desiccant model that uses no refrigerant, so it’s also eco-friendly.

This little dehumidifier is compact and lightweight enough that it could even be taken on a trip to help keep humidity in the bathroom down and help dry towels faster. Although we haven’t opted to do this yet, it could easily be stashed in our “bathtub” during travel. And it’s quiet enough that when I’m out in the trailer puttering around, I don’t even hear it running.

SHELVING

Patrick loves organization. Our Coleman travel trailer did not come with much practical storage in the bedroom, so he found adjustable chrome shelving that fits (if you assemble it inside) our “closets.” The shelves allow plenty of room for stacked clothing (or the packing cubes I love). These are slightly heavier than we would normally select for RV favorites but are so perfectly sized, easy to assemble and durable, we can’t help but recommend them as a narrow closet storage option.
